Alternate title: Modernised "Keystone Jacket and Dress Cutter" Measurement Instructions.
While as of this moment, Jo is the only person I'm asking for these measurements from it stands to reason I may need the same from others in the future and so this is a GREAT spot to post the instructions document. If this post doesn't apply to you right now, feel free to read or skip at your lesiure.
I'll include photos of myself taking each measurement as well as the original diagrams and text instructions.
Note: I have never used the waist band described here. I use a piece of yardstick or anything else with a 90 degree corner for the "square" mentioned here.
1)
For this length I need both the version that STOPS at your natural waist AND the length from your neck to the floor. (You will probably need help measuring the length to the floor)
Pinch the tape at your waist so you can bring it around and read the number.
2)
This is different from the traditional front length we measure for modern sewing. You start AT THE BACK of the neck (same spot as the previous measurement). And then we measure to the SIDE of the waist, not the front and NOT passing over the fullest part of the chest.
3)
This is essentially a "Half of the back width" measurement (along the shoulder blade). The square is used to help the tape stay snuggly under the arm (I think?).
This one is probably the hardest to measure on yourself.
4)
Even though it says not to move the square I always have especially b/c I usually measure myself. Just make sure the square is still snug in your armpit!
5)
Unlike modern sleeve measurements, this one is taken on the underside of the arm, starting from the armpit.
6)
Standard bust measurement.
7)
This one should be tight (but not uncomfortable!)
8)
Try to compromise between eye-balling 6 inches below your waist and also getting the tape measure around the widest part of your hips.
9)
Take this measurement around the widest part of a BENT elbow
10 AND 11)
Nice and snug on the wrist AND neck measures.
There you go! Make sure to note down and label each measurement as you take it and reach out if it's too confusing (These are pretty complicated directions!!)
Lol, you can tell from my face that I take fashion design seriously? idk
