New Arrivals

As some may know, we like cats.

Also, one of our family friends lives on a farm with prolific barn cats despite their best efforts. So it would make sense, that when informed of a pair of very cute newly born kittens in need of a home, we would be very willing to bring them into ours.

Welcome, Freya and Shepard.

These two creatures of energy have quickly taken to their new home. I haven't really had many cats brought to the house as kittens. Most of the time, we adopted or inherited adult cats that took a long time to get used to the house and any other cats. These very much are not that way, much to the chagrin of Persephone, our older cat. These ones have not at all had a period of hiding in a corner or not coming out to eat while we were around. Instead they eagerly follow you around or play with your feet under the blanket with a ferocity far outsizing their physical prowess.

To help Persephone gets used to the kittens, we've been only letting them roam the house during the day when we're awake. This way Persephone can get at least a little bit of a break from them and can have the house to herself for a while. She still doesn't like them much and hisses whenever one enters her sight, but the kittens seem fairly unbothered by her. They mostly stick together and just back away once Persephone hisses a cat obscenity. Such are cats.

Working from home with kittens has involved stopping periodically to make sure they aren't playing too roughly, or pulling my headset cord from the claws or teeth of a playful one. Things I haven't had to do before or be alert for. It seems that they go from spats of running around and tumbling with each other, to periods of just napping on the couch.

We look forward to seeing the cats these two grow into and all of us having a great time together.
